Contra Costa County Public Works announced that unleaded aviation fuel is now available at Buchanan Field Airport in Concord. The new fuel option was made possible by Pacific States Aviation (PSA), a fixed base operator at the airport, which received its first delivery of Swift’s UL94 unleaded avgas on December 30, 2025, and began dispensing it in February 2026. Additional details about Swift’s UL94 product are available on the company’s website: https://www.swiftfuelsavgas.com/faq.
The UL94 fuel can be used in more than 70% of piston-powered airplanes across the United States. At Buchanan Field, PSA will use this fuel for all 13 of its flight training aircraft, which make up the largest training fleet at the airport.
According to county officials, introducing unleaded avgas reflects ongoing efforts by both PSA and Airports Division staff to provide safer and more commercially viable options for aviation fuel within Contra Costa County.
Supervisor Ken Carlson commented on the change: “As a member of the Bay Area Air District (BAAD), this is an example of the bold steps industry can take. I applaud PSA and the Airports Division staff for their continued commitment to bringing unleaded Avgas to Buchanan Airport.”
The Contra Costa County Public Works Department manages various infrastructure responsibilities including roads, streams, parks, and two airports—Buchanan Field Airport in Concord and Byron Airport in Byron. More information about CCCPWD services can be found at www.cccpublicworks.org.
