A Union City woman was arraigned in Contra Costa Superior Court on December 16, facing multiple felony charges including attempted murder, stalking, child abuse, and criminal threats. The arraignment took place in Martinez.
According to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office, 40-year-old Xiaojie Zhang pleaded not guilty to all charges. Prosecutors allege that Zhang attempted to murder a minor identified as John Doe in San Ramon by firing a handgun at him on or about November 23. The minor sustained an injury that was not life-threatening.
Authorities also charged Zhang with stalking another confidential victim and making criminal threats around the same date as the shooting. The complaint includes enhancements for intentionally discharging a firearm with the intent to cause great bodily injury and for using a firearm during the commission or attempted commission of these offenses.
Zhang waived her right to have a preliminary hearing within ten days of being charged. A date for that hearing has not yet been set. She is currently held at the Martinez Detention Facility with bail set at $1,675,000.
“This case is being prosecuted under Case No. 01-25-04216: The People of the State of California v. Xiaojie Zhang,” according to court records.
