The Hawaii–Hilo Vulcans, featuring former Freedom High School star Evan Merz, were edged out 11-9 by the Azusa Pacific Cougars in an NCAA Division II baseball matchup held Monday, March 16, at 3 p.m.
The contest, taking place at Cougar Baseball Complex, marked the teams’ third meeting of the season. In their prior contest on Saturday, March 14, the Vulcans fell 9-4 to the Cougars.
Merz contributed with two hits in four at-bats, tallying three runs, five RBIs, drawing one walk, striking out once, and leaving two on base.
The Vulcans will face the Azusa Pacific Cougars again at Cougar Baseball Complex on Monday, March 16, at 6 p.m. for their next matchup.
