A former biology teacher and cheerleading coach in the San Ramon School District, Nicholas Brandon Moseby, has been sentenced to state prison for sexually abusing and exploiting minors. On December 31, 2025, Judge Joni T. Hiramoto handed down a sentence of three years and eight months—the maximum allowed by law—and ordered Moseby to register as a sex offender for life.
Moseby was taken into custody immediately after sentencing. The investigation began on September 14, 2022, when the Contra Costa County Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force executed a search warrant at his Concord home following a report that he had sent harmful material to a minor. Authorities later determined that Moseby had also unlawfully touched several minors at schools where he taught and during cheerleading sessions in the San Ramon area.
Following a five-week trial held in September and October 2025, Moseby was convicted of felonies including lewd acts with a child and sending harmful material to a minor. He was also found guilty of two misdemeanors: sexual battery and annoying or molesting a minor.
Contra Costa District Attorney Diana Becton commented: “This sentencing marks the end of a three-year legal process and delivers long-awaited justice for the brave victims who came forward. We hope this outcome brings them a measure of closure and affirms that their voices were heard.”
The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Jessica Murad from the Sexual Assault Unit. The investigation involved multiple agencies within the ICAC Task Force—including local police departments from Walnut Creek, Concord, Pleasant Hill, Brentwood, Pittsburg, San Ramon, Danville, Oakley, Moraga—as well as the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Secret Service, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and inspectors from the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.
