Contra Costa County announced on April 16 that it is seeking an individual with aviation expertise to serve on the Airport Land Use Commission. The opening is for the Airports Manager Appointee 2 Commissioner seat, which is recommended by the Director of Airports and must be appointed by the Board of Supervisors.

The commission plays a key role in shaping land use policies and ensuring compatibility between proposed developments and public airport operations. Its responsibilities include reviewing local agencies’ general plans for consistency with the Airport Land Use Compatibility Plan, as well as evaluating proposed changes to airport master plans.

Candidates are expected to have education, training, business experience, or vocational background in aviation. They must also reside or work within Contra Costa County during their term. Commissioners attend at least one meeting per month, typically held in person with a virtual option available to the public every third Thursday at 7:00 p.m., at the Department of Conservation and Development in Martinez. Members serve without compensation but may need to participate in additional study sessions or field trips as required.

Appointed members are subject to State Law requirements regarding conflict of interest reporting through compliance with Fair and Political Practices Commission codes. Each commissioner serves a four-year term until a successor is appointed and qualified.

Application forms can be obtained from the Clerk of the Board by calling 925-655-2000 or online at https://contra-costa.granicus.com/boards/forms/321/apply; completed applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. Selected applicants will be contacted if interviews are scheduled.

The Contra Costa County Public Works Department maintains county infrastructure including roads, streams, drainage systems, buildings, parks services, sandbag distribution programs, flood control efforts across unincorporated areas of Contra Costa County, and operates Buchanan Field Airport in Concord along with Byron Airport in Byron.
