Contra Costa County announced on April 21 a series of Earth Day events taking place across the county, inviting residents to participate in environmental activities from April 24 through May 9.

The initiative aims to encourage community involvement in environmental stewardship and awareness. The scheduled events provide opportunities for hands-on participation, education, and connection with neighbors while supporting sustainability efforts.

Activities begin Friday, April 24 with the Bay Point Earth Day Farm Festival at Rio Vista Elementary’s Pacifica Garden Farm from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., featuring farm tours, scavenger hunts, harvesting and planting activities. On Saturday, April 25, several cleanups and celebrations are planned including the Crockett Waterfront Cleanup (10 a.m.–1 p.m.), East Bay Parks Earth Day volunteer projects (9 a.m.–12 p.m.) at multiple locations, El Cerrito’s park tidying and invasive plant removal (9 a.m.–12 p.m.), as well as an afternoon Repair Workshop (1–4 p.m.) teaching skills to extend item lifespans. Additional Saturday activities include El Sobrante’s cleanup event at the public library (9:30 a.m.–12 p.m.), Martinez’s Arbor Day celebration with details available online, Richmond’s Point Pinole invasive plant removal (9 a.m.–12 p.m.), and Rodeo Creek Cleanup (9 a.m.–12 p.m.).

Sunday events on April 26 include Kensington’s free community gathering focused on art and learning from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., along with Lafayette’s family-friendly festival offering resources on environmental topics between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The program concludes with Pleasant Hill’s Grayson Creek Cleanup scheduled for Saturday, May 9 from 9 a.m. to noon.

County officials encourage all residents to take part in these local efforts as an opportunity “to protect the environment through a day of action.” The range of options allows people of all ages and interests to get involved.
